R.I.P. Charlie O’Donnell

We’ve got some sad news for you tonight. Charlie O’Donnell, best known as announcer of Wheel of Fortune, died Halloween night in his sleep. Caught word of this from Facebook, I didn’t believe it, but it was true. You can learn more about it here.

“Charlie O”, as he’s affectionately known by game show fans, did a lot of work. He started off with Dick Clark on American Bandstand, then went on to anchor the news at KCOP-TV in Los Angeles.

Of course, he did other shows as well. I’d like to present to you now a video resume and tribute to his work. For those of you who are curious, Johnny Gilbert (who is about a decade older than Charlie) is announcing this week.

And of course…..

Speaking of Million Dollar Wins, I hate to deviate, but it seems I was wrong. There was no Million Dollar Win last week.

Rest in peace, Chuck.

One Response to R.I.P. Charlie O’Donnell

  1. Bob Patrick says:

I wish “Wheel” had made more use of Charlie. I remember once, when the show was spending a week in St. Louis, he took viewers to a jazz club there; it was the best part of the show. There aren’t many classic announcers (like Charlie, Johnny Olson, or Gene Wood) left; Johnny Gilbert and Don Morrow (when he does announce) are about the only ones that come to mind.
