The “Fakeness” of Cash Cab/The Match of the Century

All right, I got 2 things for you. First off, there are a lot of rumors going around that Discovery Channel’s Cash Cab is fake. I know, there isn’t exactly a cab out there that gives away hundreds of dollars in cash. There has to be some screening, after all it is a TV show. More details here.

Also, here’s something interesting from BuzzerBlog. Apparently, Ken Jennings and Brad Rutter are going to be facing off against IBM’s “Watson” from February 14th to February 16th. 3 games should decide it. Winner gets a cool million, yet there’s a charitable twist here. If “Watson” wins, all $1,000,000 of it is going to charity. If either Brad or Ken wins, then they claim they’ll give half the money to charity. I’m thinking, that’s stupid.

My first impression of that is that the producers will automatically take half, like they did on NY Wired. Of course, I have since learned that they’re giving the money out of their own free will.

Come to think of it, that kind of makes sense considering that both men together are about $6M strong. This is like Billie Jean King and John McEnroe taking on HAL, if you can imagine such a thing. Sony could easily make millions selling admission for this series of matches. Learn just about as much of the story as BuzzerBlog gave you here.

You know who I’d like to see take on a supercomputer? Kit Salisbury (who, interestingly enough, was on Jeopardy in 1999, winning $12,200 and a trip to Prospect Plantation Villa in Ocho Rios, Jamaica).

If you know where I can find video of Mr. Salisbury’s 1999 return, would you please let me know?
